: The JCPCT’s decision to de-designate the Brompton as a children’s cardiac surgery centre
is being reviewed by an organisation called the Independent Reconfiguration Panel (IRP).
The IRP is keen to hear
the views of Brompton respiratory patients and carers on two issues in particular:
First, the impact upon
respiratory patients of closure of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (in terms, really, of the impact of the sort of changes
proposed by the Pollitt panel).
Second, whether we felt that we had been listened to during the S&S review process.
The panel will be reporting to the Secretary
of State on 28 March 2013. The panel positively encourages parents and patients to make submissions to it. All submissions
should be made by the end of February.
To help frame a submission to the panel, please read the briefing paper for the engagement exercise which was jointly prepared by Asthma UK and the CF Trust together with the CF Trust’s submission to the engagement exercise. Additional background materials (including the Pollitt report and letters to the JCPCT from the
respiratory charities and international experts) remain available here.
